Catherine's Yearly Yuletide Musical Celebration Pays Tribute to Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her customary Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with guests including royals, celebrities and local heroes who have helped their communities.

The large audience will listen to a blend of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from stars like Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Centred Around Love and Generosity

The theme of the service, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday, is kindness and showing love to others.

Among the guests will be Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a terminally ill child.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often quietly and unspoken, and without any expectation or recognition, make an extraordinary difference to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a letter ahead of the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to official duties after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Attendees entering the Abbey can listen to young musicians aided by the Future Talent organisation, set up with the help of the Duchess of Kent to widen access to instrumental training.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Wales, has been assisted by the charity, with grants helping towards instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "incredible" to be taking part in the concert.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," Carys said. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to hone their artistic talents.

A Sisterly Duo

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who plays the euphonium, will be present at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many important people," she said.

Within the audience will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will feature young Saphia Turner, nine, winner of a young hero award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to generate funds for community pantries.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

The musical lineup includes Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "a dream come true."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on television on December 24th.
